Ripples

While still in the mood for poetry, I decided to drag up one of the first few poems I wrote.

I stand here starring through the mirror,
Pondering my very existence,
Wondering if my life is influencing even the smallest of things.
But I am a speck of dust, falling upon the ocean,
Creating a ripple ever so minute,
Swallowed and erased by waves and storms,
Silenced.

Nevertheless, even the tiniest speck of dust
Creates a ripple.

You are created in the image of God. God has called you to manage and subdue the earth (Gen 1:28). In the biblical jargon, it is called the cultural mandate. Humanity had fallen into sin and sin marred God's creation. We have been called to redeem the creation by transforming it.

You have been redeemed by Christ. Therefore you are his workmanship created in Christ to do good works which God prepared in advance for you to do (Eph 2:10). So you are not insigificant. You have a God-assignment to do in this world. God can use you to influence his world. There is no little people (incidentally its my blog's name) and there is no little actions. As you seek to live purposefully to glorify God, he can use you in ways that you can't imagine. This is dad's experience. I am writing from Charlotte before departure to Grand Rapids to see your sister.

I like your poem and style of writing. I enjoy them. Who knows God might call you to be a writer instead of a physicist or traceur. Miss you and looking forward to be home soon.

Love you.

Dad.

Hey Dad.

Thanks for the input. I was writing from the same perspective used in the post entitled "Swim". Being only one person among many, what I do seems to be insignificant to me. But as you said, there are no little people, and there are no little actions.

The small ripple I create now, will still influence the way things happen in the future.

All our actions, intertwined, will create something great in the future.

So perhaps I am not a great influence by standing alone, but I am part of something that will be a great influence; as we all are.

No longer in reference to the whole world though, what we all do is never counted as small or insignificant when put in the frame of our immediate influence. I like your point of view.

Well say hi to Sarah for me when you get there. Have a great flight and an even greater time there. Enjoy thanksgiving!

With love,

Sam.

Hi Sam,
I am now with Sarah. She came to Grand Rapids airport to pick me. Thank God my luggage arrived. The airports everywhere were chaotic because of Thanksgiving Day- the busiest day in USA. My flight was re-routed to another place resulted in late arrival. Its a joy to see your sister. She likes the card you made and the things you said to her. She commented that she will keep your 'specially made for her card' as a treasure!

I have brought along all the foodstuff across oceans and seas, enought to last her for one whole semester.

We are now in Chicago, its snowing, the whole place is like a cold storage.

Sarah sends her love with snow flake frozen in time.

We love you and miss you. Wish that you and mum would be here with us.

Ahem. I like the last two lines the best. *wink*

Sam, thanks so much for the card! I really love it. I love the trouble you took to make it purple just coz it would make me smile =) I love the paper craft too. Interestingly, I wanted to ask you to send me a design pattern for one of those pop-up cards, something like what you gave me. I want to do something like that for my art sketchbook.

I'm now in Chicago with Dad and it's snowwwwwinggggg!!!!! Very very beautiful. Very dreamlike; I still can't believe it's actually happening. I wish you could be here.

This will be my first Thanksgiving...and I really do have a lot to be grateful for. Take care, Sam, and say hi to Mum for me. Love you!

@Dad

Well, it WAS a whole suitcase full. Haha

@Sarah

It actually works better with paper, but I decided that I wanted more space to write and it suddenly hit me, transparency! So I did it. By the way, did the glue marks fade? Haha.

Well if you can't bring snow back, then I'll settle for that snowflake frozen in time. When will I receive it? Oh, wait... No pun intended.

Have a blast of a time (still haven't gotten over the time pun), and eat some turkey on my behalf.

Look hard enough out of the window, and you might just see the snowflakes form a pattern that looks like my face. There, your wish answered.

DISCLAIMER:
You might, or might not.

With a warm love,
Refreshing in the frigid cold,
Watch in wonder,
Watch in awe,
As the snowflakes fall
About and around,
And silently thank the Lord,
That nothing bigger is falling.

THUDing my way onwards,

Sam
